Penn State Startup Week 2026

Lance Streuber is a cofounder of Surge Events, an online platform that automatically builds and maintains community event calendars. Most of Lance’s ideas have started out wrong. His first attempt, trying to sell food belonging to people he didn’t know to strangers on the internet via a subscription, failed miserably and taught him more than a successful launch ever would’ve.

Outside of startups, Lance treats his own life the same way. He is always trying out something new, whether that means spending ten straight days in silent meditation at a Buddhist monastery with no prior meditation experience, taking a sidequest job as a financial advisor despite knowing very little in the hopes to get paid to learn about money, or working in defense research for a year to see if it was his thing (it wasn’t). Each of these was an experiment, not a resume line.

Lance cares more about building meaningful things and living an interesting life than optimizing for money. He believes progress, in startups and in people, comes from iteration. He also tells us that he’s very friendly. Say hi!
